Dunloe Castle
Beautifully located behind The Dunloe Hotel & Gardens in Beaufort with the towering MacGillicuddy Reeks backdrop, the Dunloe Castle was built by the Norman Fitzgeralds in 1215. It is believed that the castle was built as part of the overall Killarney defense strategy; used to patrol and dictate the passage across the Gap of Dunloe river. Some of the original castle ruins still remains which laid the foundations for the present construction.
